Climbing Lewes Castle

Today we had to roll with the weather. We were meant to go to Hastings, it is on the seaside, but the rain kept us away and we re-scheduled for Saturday. Instead we took the kids to Lewes Castle and hiked to the top. It is about 1000 years old and still in pretty good shape. Lewes is also the home of Harvey’s Brewery. If you have ever been to our home bar you will notice there is a lot of Harvey’s stuff decorating the walls and bar. This is Michael’s favorite beer and it is only available in this part of England, nowhere else in the world.
Tomorrow we head to London for a few days. Michael and I will stay for a couple of nights and the kids will come in with mum and dad for the day on Thursday. We are seeing Wicked on West End and going on a ghost story pub crawl in East End and the kids will do the Eye and see the Mews!! Lots of great times ahead!!

Harry Potter Studio

WOW!!! We are all blown away by the Harry Potter Studio. Especially Cassidy, she couldn’t look at everything fast enough, we had to slow her down. This is not like The Harry Potter experience in Florida. This is the actual sets from the movies. It is the studio where the movies were shot. We got to ride on brooms through London, Take a ride in the flying car and Cassie and I practiced our wand skills. One thing was cooler than the next. What an amazing day for us all. The best part may have been at the very end. On display is the Hogwarts model, it is how they shot ALL the footage for the first 6 movies of the exterior of the school. Then with green screens and computers added in the rest for the movies. Just fantastic. I am afraid that these photo’s just don’t do the sets justice, really is an “in person” thing.

Down on the Farm

Michael sister Dawn owns a farm with Chicken’s, Ducks, Sheep, Cows, and Horse’s. Tomorrow we are heading out all day to the Harry Potter Studio’s so there was a lot to do on the farm so Dawn could come with us. Michael and I did nothing but take photo’s, but the kids got right to work with Mum and Dad mucking out stalls, letting the chicken’s out and feeding the cows. Defiantly not my kind of “fun” but the kids were having a ball when we left:)

A breezy walk in Brighton

After 3 flights in 5 days we were ready for quieter day! The kids have been working on their homework a bit each day we haven’t been traveling. They are doing well with the work they need to do and I am proud of them for knowing they still have responsibilities, even in all the mayhem of all of our travels!
Today we decided to take a ride down to the sea side and go to lunch and have a walk at Brighton Marina. It is sort of a boardwalk(made of bricks) and full of everything from small fishing boats to million pound yachts. Here at the house it was a beautiful spring day, by the water, it was insanely windy, cold with downpours of rain. We lasted a little while then had to go. Brrr! We had a great meal tonight at Dawn’s(m’s sister) local pub. Always on of our favorite pubs with fabulous food and drink. Photo’s are a few left over from yesterday and todays adventures.

Welcome to Italy?!?!?!?!

The saying goes, “The Best Laid Plans…….” Well, we had an entire day in France that went nothing the way we planned. Thankfully we are the type of family that will roll with the punches and not get too flustered. The plan was as follows, up at 9, Chamonix by 10.30, take the train up Mont Blanc and then hike down to the ice caves, Lunch of snails and wine in Chamonix town, back to apartment by 6.30, dinner with our friend Dave at 7pm. Um, our day really did not quite go as planned. Between fighting Jet Lag for one last day and weather it looked a bit more like this!!
Awake 10.30am. Whoops, missed that mark by a mile, but much needed sleep. We had two 5 am mornings in 3 days with 2 time changes, it can put a hurting on your body.
Got to Chamonix about 1pm and the weather was CRAP!! Cloud covered all the way down the mountian. I was crushed the kids could not see the Alps at all, Cassie was in tears because she would not hike the caves. We walked into town to see if it improved at all….no luck! We popped into a junk shop, got t-shirts all around and the kids picked a special something they wanted(at least we could prove we were here..lol). I looked at Michael and said, “Forget it, lets just keep driving to Italy and see if the weather is better on the Italian Side.” Took a couple of photo’s of the kids in
Chamonix and back in the car. To get to Italy you have to drive through the longest tunnel in Europe. It is about 15 km. When we came out on the other side it was worth it. You could see all the mountians around us. BEAUTIFUL!! Cassie was in awe, Caden thought they were OK. I sware it takes a lot to impress this little guy. We popped into a pizzeria and had Pizza in Italy!! Now the funny thing is I have been holding it over Michaels head for 10 years that he never took me to Italy for a slice of pizza when we lived in Switzerland. Now I have shared the experience with the kiddo’s!! We took lots of photos(about 200) I am picking and choosing ones to post and it is almost impossible. The day was not a total bust! The best quote of the day was from Cassidy, “Who gets to take a spontaneous trip to Italy??” LOL!!! We ended the day with a great meal with out friend Dave who still works at CERN.
So many things didn’t go quite at planned, the Fountain in Gevena was not running, the kids in France/Switzerland were on half-term so we missed seeing a lot of our friends, Chamonix was a bust, we planned on eating snails, filet du perche, as I said the “best laid Plans”!! Even though none of the things we planned happened the way we thought they would, we wouldn’t change one part of our trip. The kids had a ball, they saw 2 new countries, met some of our friends, learned to speak a little French and are begging to go to Greece, Rome, Ireland, Paris and the list goes on and on. We are happy to be heading back to England for another 10 days and see if our plans shake out there. If they don’t, we won’t sweat it, we will just go with the flow and see what we can see and enjoy every minute of it:)

Nyon and Geneva

Yesterday was a long, long day. Excitement was very high at 5am when we got up for our second flight in as many days. I love the kids are old enough now that we can pack for 3 days, have everyone bring a carry on and forget the luggage. Makes life very simple, very easy when it come to travel. We were in Gevena airport by 10.30am(one hour time change to add to our bit of jet lag). We managed to get our care hire very quickly and off we were. We went to Nyon! This is where Michael and I used to live, Cassie’s birth place!! Talk about Flashbacks, whew!! Where we would eat, where we would shop, where we took long walks and drives to try and get this baby to stop crying!! While the kids were looking in awe and wonder, I was tearing up with memoires of those special first few months with just Michael, Myself and our little baby. The kids were floored by the alps, although it was very hazy(couldn’t see monte blanc) it still showed how crazy small our little mountains in upstate ny are…lol!! We bought some pastry, sandwiches and a loaf of crusty bread at the bakery and sat on a bench, lakeside and had an lovely lunch.
Next we hoped in the car, and found our little apartment we were using for the next couple of days. At that point I called a mommy “time-out” exhaustion had set in for everyone, so a one hour nap was in order to continue!! Somewhat rested we headed to Geneva. The Jet d’eau was not running, major bummer for the kids, but we explored the city and had a fabulous time. I snapped a ton of photo’s and have a whole other blog to do on Swiss chocolate for the Berrylicious Bouquets blog. Will post when I do it! Finished it off with our good friend Faten who brought Chocolate for everyone and we had a lovely Italian dinner, lakeside. 17 hours from the start our day ended. Happy to sleep, we have slept in a bit late this morning, but still have plenty of time to get up to Chamonix for another day of adventure on our European Vacation:)

First Day in England

We have made it safely to England.  First time we have ever taken a morning flight to Europe and I can say it is the WAY to go!!  So much easier on the jet lag.  Flight was great except for 15 mins when the turbulence scared the crap out of us.  Cassie started to cry and the whole flight screamed a time or two, then it evened out.  Whew!!  Today is a pretty slow day, we have been out to get the kids new wellies, to the Tesco for some groceries and the kids are off to Aunt Dawn’s farm this afternoon to help feed the animals.  It is so nice to have warmer temps and NO SNOW!!!!   Tomorrow we are up at the crack of dawn again to catch an 8am flight from Gatwick into Geneva Switzerland.  Here is a sneak peak of Nan and Grandad’s house in Framfield!

Cassie’s 10th Birthday, Percy Jackson party

Cassie has been obsessed with the Percy Jackson series the last couple of years so it was the obvious choice of theme for her 10th birthday.  All her guests came to Camp Half Blood for the afternoon and they watch the movie at the end of the party.

2014 New Years PJ party

Looking at our family blog it seem I have forgotten about it for quite a while!!  Facebook makes it SO easy to share what it going on with our family that I haven’t done much with it.  We will be taking a trip to Europe next month and I think that will be the best way to share our adventures.  Figured I would kick start it without Super fun NYE PJ party.  We had a ball and so did the kids.  Everyone even made it to Midnight!!!  We also got a new camera so I got to try it out!!

10 year Anniversary Trip

Michael and I headed to the Dominican Republic for 6 days for our 10 year anniversary.  We drove down to Philly and left the kids with Dad and Sandy for the week.  We can not thank them enough for taking the kids.  The kids had as much excitement as we did, they spent a couple of days in NYC with all the cousins, hung out in Philly, made pretzels, etc.  We on the other hand took lots of naps, drank fruity cocktails, and hung out on the beach.  What a great time we had.  It was amazing.  Couldn’t have been a nicer resort, our butler rocked.  Biggest surprise of the trip, M and I planned a private dinner on the beach, our butler saw we were going and while we were on the beach having our 4 course meal, he was drawing us a bubble bath, with rose peddles, champagne and candles.  Does it get any better??  We didn’t take very many photo’s since it was just us.  Here are the few we took….
